Q: My family room has a ceiling consisting of a series of sound insulation boards supported by aluminum strips.
I want to install the ceiling light above my head so I can use this room as a studio, but hanging the rail light or chandelier needs to drill holes in the panel so I can fix it on the ceiling beam above.
Fluorescent lighting would be more appropriate for me.
Is it necessary to carry out major renovation to install such lighting equipment?
A: No changes are needed-
In addition to having the electrician install the necessary lines required.
Modular fluorescent lighting fixtures are available that will replace one of the ceilings and be installed in an aluminum ceiling grid.
You can simply lift the panel from the position you want and then drop the new lighting from above.
It will rest on the same metal channel as the original ceiling panel.
A clear or frosted panel is underneath to hide the sight of the light fixture while letting its light pass through.
Q: We have dark paneling on the walls of our room.
The panel has been waxed many times and now I want to color this piece of wood.
How should I prepare these panels for painting?
A: It is best to peel all the wax and old finishes to bare wood with chemical paint and varnish remover.
But you may get a baptism by peeling off the line if you use a deglossing (
Sold in paint shop)
Remove all the wax.
After the surface is cleaned, use-
The fine paper dim any glossy spots left, especially in grooves and joints.
Then apply a major coat of stain killer like Kilz or BIN, after which you can draw as usual.
Q: Our patio has an old roof made of translucent corrugated fiberglass panels.
They are covered with dirt that I can\'t seem to wash off.
Is there any suggestion to clean up this build up?
A: The most effective way is to have professionals come in with an electric washing machine or steam cleaner ---
If you can find a contractor to do such a small job.
You can do a pretty good job by dipping yourself with a hard brush with a strong detergent solution such as Soilax or Mex.
If this does not work, try a strong fiberglass cleaning solution for the fiberglass boat.
This means you have to feel like you can crawl on the roof with your hands and knees while scrubbing.
Q: The aluminum wall panel in my house looks dirty.
Can this side plate be painted?
A: Yes, try to keep it clean after scrubbing it with strong detergent.
If the surface is white, please wash it again to remove this powdered chalk as much as possible.
Then paint with two good quality latex house coatings that say it is suitable for use on aluminum siding.
