liven up boring rental decor
High ceilings, original wood products, plenty of light.
But when Alice Danino moved in
The bedroom was empty.
The kitchen cabinets, walls and countertops are all white.
There is no touch anywhere.
So she put her creativity into her work and made the place feel like home. She bought it herself.
Silver decals in the shape of kitchen cabinets and cutlery and calligraphy quotes for corridor walls.
Now there are plants in every room, and there is a lot of color splash on small appliances, plates, sofa cushions and accessories, which Danino and her current roommate Vanessa Tobin brought home
\"I would love to paint the walls purple, but they have to go back to the original white when we leave,\" Danino said . \".
\"Instead, we found more temporary ways to introduce personality.
\"The rental can be boring or dull, and the monotonous cabinets, floors and countertops look better.
Typically, the rental is in neutral color, and for durability and mass appeal, the chosen surface is more beautiful than it is.
Many landlords ban everything but cosmetic surgery.
Besides, who is willing to invest a lot of money in places they don\'t own?
However, there are some ways to make the price low and improve temporarily.
We asked two interior designers, Nicola mark and Anita Konidaris, for their advice on injecting warmth and personality into the rental apartment.
From home magazines, museum gift shops, flea markets, decorative boutiques and hardware stores to winners and Ikea, they find inspiration in a variety of places. -
Anita Conidaris is an artist, decorator and garden designer in Montreal.
Her interior is classic.
Mix of texture and style.
Some of her thoughts are: most landlords insist on having tenants leave the wall when they find it, or repaint it before they leave.
Conidaris says painting an accent wall in a deep and bold color in the living room or bedroom adds instant drama, and that repainting is more energy than painting the entire room when moving
Don\'t worry about matching mixed furniture.
\"I don\'t like the set;
\"They don\'t lend their personality to the room,\" she said . \".
In fact, Conidaris said that the addition of different styles of furniture adds to the personality.
For example, for a Middle
Century coffee table with traditional sofa.
Or a wood table recycled in white gray tones
Antique chair, clean, spare, a little rustic, Scandinavian feel.
She also likes the visual tension that is generated when different textures are combined: gloss and dull, silk and linen, raw wood and paint surfaces.
A well-lit light can not only illuminate the room;
Also increased the mood.
Make sure to provide light from different sources including desk lamp, floor lamp and ceiling lamp.
Even a home with a well
Bright rooms with embedded ceiling lights need to be layered with light at different heights.
Create groups to avoid clutter and group items as collections.
For a pleasant composition, Conidaris suggests a triangle method where higher, larger objects are placed in the center of the arrangement with shorter items around.
Think about it, if you are not allowed to repaint the cabinets, they can be updated with the replacement knobs and handles.
Home Depot, for example, has chosen cheap hardware in many finishes.
The ART of ART\'s SAKEArt does not have to be expensive or precious.
Conidaris puts Japanese printed paper in a similar frame, black or white, and then hangs them on the wall to form a vibrant arrangement.
She will divide them into two, three, three.
Or you can buy original art.
Not another work by Monet. from up-
And future artists.
There are mirrors of different sizes and shapes above the bedroom vanity or on the corridor wall.
Place the mirror in an antique frame (
Buy second-hand)or new ones.
If the frames are different, for example, unify them by sticking to wood or metal or a single color.
Or hang an oversized mirror in a small space, visually enlarge the space and bring more light in a dark area.
With the use of color, texture, and style choices, be sure to keep a certain amount of space flowing, especially in the attic or small apartment where one living area leads to the other.
Keep the color neutral and add an accessory of one or two complementary colors.
For example, in the adjacent living room and dining room, throw a red cushion on the sofa, and then put a red vase or table ball in the dining room.
Don\'t be too serious about some different elements that are slightly off the notes of the whimsy.
Even in a traditional setting, you can choose crazy lampshades, unusual artwork, or unexpected colors. -
Nicola mark is British.
Montreal-born designer and interior designer with Marc Gold interior design.
Her styling appears in many decorative magazines with its classic European details and whimsical styles, including country life, family style, and family.
Here are some of her ideas: Investing in curtains and cushions on fabrics can add spice to the original monotonous interior.
Fabric is a great way to bring colors and patterns into neutral rooms.
Curtains protect privacy and resist the heat.
They are also highly portable.
In the kitchen area, Marc suggests hiding the washer or dryer behind the fabric curtain.
She tied the curtain panels along the elastic bands hanging from the small holes in the furniture. (
It is easy to fill the resulting holes before moving. )
A good way to paint furniture urea to bring together different styles of sundries is to paint antiques or antiques.
Mark\'s own dining room chair, painted Brown, is their third color.
The movable tailgate of the tiles, print out your own photos and place them in a brightly colored frame to enliven the walls behind the kitchen counter.
You might think it\'s permanent to buy wallpaper.
But Mark put a pair on the wall.
The double-sided permanent tape she bought at the hardware store or stationery store.
She decorated the back of the door panels, bookshelves and kitchen cabinets beautifully with a variety of prints.
Sometimes she puts wallpaper behind the glass cabinet door.
If the kitchen cabinets are really ugly, she suggests taking all the doors down and hiding them somewhere.
Then arrange the dishes on the back of the cabinet with the pattern wallpaper, skillfully arrange the dishes in the new-
Find display space
Insist on neutrality-
Ticket items like sofas and carpets last a long time and often cost a lot of money.
Even if your color preferences change or you move to another place, you want them to suit you.
You can find the sword linen and hemp carpets at reasonable prices in Ikea, and you can also find all wool carpets in HomeSense.
Use a set of clear glass cans filled with pasta, beans and beans or grains in the kitchen, and glass jars filled with shells and river stones in the bathroom.
\"As long as each element has something in common, collections can be anything you want,\" Marc explains . \".
For example, all the wood, or a set of glass vases and cake stands.
\"Visit the museum mark love Museum gift shop and enjoy prints, postcards and unusual items that are displayed in frames or otherwise.
She often buys the exhibition catalogue or calendar and takes out the page for frame design, perhaps a retro frame.
The lights are fixed to the ceiling and the wall lights and wall lights for rent can be ugly as they are made
Bronze finish or frosted, patterned shades of glass.
Many times, they have not been replaced for a long time.
\"A bad hanging light can really dominate a space,\" Marc said . \".
\"But you don\'t have to stick to it.
It\'s usually worth investing in new equipment, says Mark. (
Put the original back before you leave. )
Home Depot is a great source of cheap wall lights for glass, Chrome or brushed nickel.
So do Zone Maison and Ikea.
They hide a bad floor but can also define a space.
An area rug under a table or coffee table can really put furniture in the room to create a close relationship.
