shelter: couple downsizes from 17-room house to luxury condo in outremont
But when the quick sale failed, they decided to move in and were glad they did.
Until three years ago, Michelle and Guy boutrie lived in what Michelle called a \"very big house \".
The hotel has 17 rooms with antiques and original art.
In 2015, the 60-year-old retired couple decided that they had too many homes to take care of and started looking around for a smaller home.
There are four children in Bouthilliers (
And five grandchildren.
They have created their own lives long ago.
The couple need enough space to accommodate their family when they visit, but of course they don\'t need as many rooms as they used.
To this end, they began to look for another house, search for newspaper advertisements, and visit the open house.
They took 2,800-square-
Walking apartments in Outremont, once two apartments, were converted into a residence by a former owner.
However, this is not the end of the story.
Michelle was initially ambivalent about moving and was not interested in their new residence, so she and her husband put it back in the market.
Their \"very big house\" went on sale at the same time and both properties were sold within 10 days!
The couple\'s kitchen is well equipped-
It looks like rosewood cabinets and stainless steel appliances, but Michelle boutrier says she may change the beige tiles inherited by the apartment.
Pierre obindau/the Gaza Strip of Montreal when the buyer of the apartment changed his mind and Bouthilliers brought it back, the legend went on.
They are now finally settled in their beautiful house, which is part of the development of luxury apartments, including a health center and a sports center.
Bouthilliers apartment has five bedrooms (
Two are family offices)
Three bathrooms, one open.
Designed living/dining room, laundry, small balcony and large enclosed garden.
Q: You have a garden but the apartment is above the first floor?
It is designed in a clever way.
Although we are looking for an apartment, we do not want to live in the upper floors.
Rise and Development.
The garden finally reached an agreement for us.
Summer is beautiful with lots of flowers and it\'s a great place to visit when the grandchildren come.
The only new piece of furniture Bouthilliers bought for their Outremont apartment is the bed in the master bedroom.
Pierre obendourf/Montréal Gazette: The apartment looks more like a house than an apartment. M: Yes it does.
I feel very comfortable about it.
Q: Looking around the interior with your elegant antiques and all your beautiful paintings, it seems that you have created a smaller version that you had before? M: (Laughs. )
This idea is more or less the case.
I had to throw away so many things but we still have a lot to offer this place.
There\'s something in our storage room that we don\'t have anywhere to put.
My kids don\'t want it either.
Q: Did you buy something new here?
Only the bed in the master bedroom.
The living room is equipped with several Louis XIII King seats.
Pierre Obendrauf/Montreal GazetteQ: sofa and love seat in the living room, your antique side table and Oriental carpet are all your previous things? M: They were.
Guy and I have collected furniture and paintings for many years.
Some of the things we bought here.
Some of our paintings were created by Quebec artists, but when we traveled, we also purchased the paintings overseas and shipped them back to Montreal.
Can you point it out?
We found a big oil painting in Belgium. (
It hangs behind a small piano. )
To ensure that the painting is not damaged, the canvas must be removed and rolled up from the gold plated frame and then reinstalled in Montreal.

Pierre Obendrauf/Montreal GazetteQ: do you seem to like furniture design for a particular era?
I see a few throne chairs in your living room, Louis XIII.
I like this style.
The chairs in the restaurant are also Louis XIII, but I also like the style of Jacobean. (
Jacobean furniture is usually made of dark wood and features spiral legs. )
The table in the foyer is Louis V.
Q: It\'s really gorgeous.
M: There are a lot of gold decorations in that style.
The table top is made of marble, and the side lights with the base of the statue are also made of marble.
I got the light from my mom. in-law. (
We moved into a kitchen with rich people.

Pierre obonderlauf/Montréal GazetteQ: this is a very attractive kitchen, but I think it is smaller than the one in your previous home?
Of course it is, but I am used to it now.
It actually has a lot of storage. (
Bouthillier opened the drawers and doors to show me what she meant. )
I\'m not very interested in beige ceramics.
Tile floor though.
We were here when we moved in.
I may change it at some point, but that\'s what will happen in the future.
